Dr. Diana Hartel is an Industrial/ Organizational Psychologist specializing in personnel selection. Having obtained her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Alberta and her M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Calgary, Dr. Hartel is a registered psychologist in the Province of British Columbia (CPBC #1437). Job analysis is an integral part of Dr. Hartel’s work, a process which matches critical job functions with the skills required to perform the work. Dr Hartel has custom designed selection systems for numerous public and private sector clients. Her selection tools, which range from online multiple choice tests to multi-day assessment centres, have been administered to thousands of applicants. Dr. Hartel has personally assessed hundreds of candidates for a variety of roles (including managerial, executive, enforcement/ regulatory and engineering positions) and has provided developmental feedback to dozens of managers. In addition, she trains managers on fair and equitable assessment, advises clients on the appropriate use of employment tests and has provided expert testimony in court on the use of selection tools in hiring.
Dr. Hartel has provided assessment accommodations for hundreds of persons with disabilities and consults with stakeholders on best practices in accommodating persons with disabilities in personnel selection.
Dr. Hartel has designed and delivered several popular workshops on how to prepare for interviews, tests, and selection processes and also coaches private clients. She has also worked in a joint union management environment where she tailored training interventions to assist individuals affected by workforce adjustment. Dr. Hartel is bilingual and has worked with organizations to ensure the equivalence of their selection tools across French and English.
