Born and raised in Vancouver, B.C., Dr. Howard pursued a career in medicine inspired by his father’s commitment to general practice and a personal affinity for problem-solving. After studying psychology during an undergraduate degree at Harvard University, with a specific interest in neurophysiology and medicine at Queen’s University, Dr. Howard returned to Vancouver to complete a residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in clinical neuropsychiatry. He was certified in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry by the United Council of Neurologic Subspecialties.

Dr. Howard currently serves as educational coordinator of the training component of the British Columbia Neuropsychiatry Program, the only UCNS accredited fellowship site for Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry in Canada. As Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia, his current interests include optimal assessment and management of patients with somatization and organic brain syndromes (including traumatic brain injury and movement disorders) and clinical research in deep brain stimulation of refractory depression. He serves as consultant psychiatrist and clinical researcher to movement disorder patients at the University of British Columbia.
