Bio

Dr. Schultz, a Founder and Clinical Director of the CORTEX Centre for Advanced Assessment, is a Professor of Rehabilitation Counselling Psychology and Director of the Graduate Program in Vocational Rehabilitation Psychology at the University of British Columbia (the only such Program in Canada). Dr. Schultz is a registered psychologist in British Columbia (CPBC #1005), Ontario (CPO #1869), and Washington State (PY #2248). She is a Board certified Diplomate in Clinical Psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology and as Diplomate in Vocational Expertise, from the American Board of Vocational Experts.

Dr. Schultz’s research focuses on causality determination in complex psychological injuries in a medicolegal context, the relationship between impairment and disability, occupational disability determination, mental health disorders and work capacity, return to work interventions, work accommodations and chronic pain, neurocognitive disorders, and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. She has published extensively in rehabilitation, forensic, and vocational psychology and neuropsychology, including her award winning studies on prediction of occupational disability, early risk identification, and intervention in a disability compensation context. Recently, Dr. Schultz developed a new evidence-based model of medicolegal psychological and neuropsychological assessment of high achievers, including business executives and entrepreneurs. She is a founding member of the Association of Scientific Advancement of Psychological Injury and Law (ASAPIL) and co-editor of Psychological Injury and the Law, in addition to serving on other international editorial boards.

Dr. Schultz is a recipient of the 2003 Parker Davidson Award from the British Columbia Psychological Association for contributions to medicolegal assessment in psychology and the 2013 American Psychological Association’s (APA) Award for Distinguished Contribution to Disability Issues in Psychology. She was the Co-Chair of the APA’s Task Force that developed evidence-informed Guidelines for Assessment and Intervention with Persons Who Have Disabilities (2012).

As a Scientist-Practitioner and court expert, Dr. Schultz has extensive psychological and neuropsychological assessment experience. In her private clinical practice, she developed expertise in assessment of complex cases involving brain injury, trauma, chronic pain, and high achievers. She has a special interest in challenging “frontiers of science” issues, which require expertise in vocational and rehabilitation psychology and neuropsychology to interface with knowledge of scientific advances and research evidence in those fields in order to solve diagnostic, causality, prognostic, and vocational impact issues. Dr. Schultz has worked with many law firms in Canada and the United States, employers, compensation systems, business executives and entrepreneurs, unions, government agencies, and individuals and their families.
